How to Avoid Morning Lethargy

By suggia

Do you feel tired and foggy in the morning, even when you’ve had adequate sleep?

I’ve found that the food I eat for breakfast has a huge impact on my how energetic and alert I feel. Specifically, simple carbohydrates such as white bread, flour, sugar, and processed cereal make me unbelievably groggy and tired! What makes me feel good? High protein breakfasts with only minimal whole grain (or fruit) carbohydrates and moderate amounts of fat.

Here are a few examples of energy draining breakfasts:

  • sugary, processed cereal with milk, soymilk, etc.
  • pancakes or waffles with syrup
  • doughnuts, muffins, scones, or other pastries
  • bagels, white bread of any kind

And here a few examples of energy boosting breakfasts:

  • hard-boiled eggs, omelletes, or fried egg
  • greek yogurt with fruit and raw, unsalted nuts
  • peanut butter and banana
  • low-sugar home-made protein shake
